Tina and I were invited to travel to Madison, Wisconsin for a factory tour of Sub-zero & Wolf with fellow designers from around the country. While in Madison we toured both factories & got hands on experience with the appliances.  We were thoroughly educated on the vast product lines and vibrant history of the company.

Naturally, being in a kitchen focused industry, we were spoiled by the two house chefs and their amazing creations. During lunch each chef orchestrated a cooking demo utilizing multiple Sub-zero & Wolf appliances. We were able to see (and taste) firsthand the delicious bounty of their high-quality products. We left the demos feeling like winners of the Next Top Chef and began plotting how to completely reconfigure our entire kitchens since nothing we’ve cooked has ever come out that amazing!

The Sub-zero & Wolf factory has their own local garden, which we also toured, where the chefs source the majority of the ingredients for the meals they prepare. It was enlightening to see how they catered their menu to the season and what produce was naturally available at the time.

Although they kept us very busy during the trip, we did not let any down time go unused. We immersed ourselves in the local couture and historic downtown of Madison. Putting in major pedometer steps over the four days, we walked throughout the Capital square and university area soaking up everything we could. The weather felt amazing up there with minimal humidity and cool evenings compared to South Texas in the middle of August.

We obviously could not leave without stopping by a local cheese shop. The state is not dubbed as the cheese capital for no reason! We were told to stop into Fromagination a small, artisanal cheese store off of the downtown square. It did not disappoint! They had hundreds of cheeses to sample along with a charming atmosphere and design aesthetic.

This type of trip is not only fun allowing us to get out of the office for a few days but also provides exposure to new and exciting experiences that are beneficial to both our firm and our clients. It provides us with the knowledge to recommend a vast array of appliances and plan spaces that meets the needs of each project. We thank Sub-zero & Wolf for including us on such an amazing trip and can’t wait to put this new found knowledge to use!
